one great thing

it's been an eternity since i posted anything.

i'm getting ready for our church's good friday service. it occurs to me that paul wrote to christians in corinth that he "decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified."

he's going for our lives to be lived with a singular focus, that being the Cross.

now, we get together as a Church every year and recognize that historical reality on good friday, but the truth is that is to be our constant focus. the cross of Christ, the passion, the sacrifice. that is what sets us apart from anything and everything else.

in his book, "don't waste your life," john piper wrote, "the people that make a difference in the world are not the people who have mastered many things, but who have been mastered by one great thing."

what am i mastered by? after spending 20 years of my life discovering what it means to follow Christ -- and realizing that i'll spend the next 20 years continuing that journey -- i hope i'm a little closer to being mastered by the "one great thing" that is the Cross.
