They Gathered Together

Every Sunday we gather with five couples over lunch. We've been doing this for a few months now and they have quickly become our dearest friends. We are "doing life" together, which I have come to realize is what we are created to do. None of us is meant to live life as an island. We are hard-wired to experience the ups and downs of our journey in community.

If Thoreau was right, that "the mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation," I am convinced that is only because they have failed to find that community with which to connect, to develop deep bonds of friendship.

Currently, among our group, there are family illnesses, financial uncertainties and struggles, relational challenges. I cannot imagine how we could face these things were it not for this community of people who have been brought together for the purpose of lifting up one another.
